I was golfing with a member a number of months ago and he used the term "working poor."  I was fascinated -- I know poor and I know those who work and I have never put those two words together.  What he meant is that there are those who truly want to work and take responsibility of themselves but the wages they make and their stage and experience will always place them in the lower 25% of income in the US.  This means they work but still are improverished.

The government programs are a complete failure and rewards slothfulness, laziness and fraud. The people who need a hand up not a hand out are left to kill themselves and see no light at the end of the tunnell. While those who live off welfare sit home in their air conditioned section eight housig playing video games and drinking beer on the corner with their pals!

It was never so evident then this morning when I was meeting with a 19 yr old gal who really wants to make sometime of herself. She is in school, working, taking for her baby and she can't find suitable housing.  She makes too much; she must be in at a certain time each night not allowing her to work; they won't take a baby....the excuses and stipulations are endless...

Some where the believing church needs to rise up and start providing for the working poor and help them get up off the ground and start up the ladder towards independence and self sustainablity!
